In 1988, Sarah and Charles Modica retired to the small, quant town of Seaside, after working side by side in the grocery business in Alabama for more than 50 years.  The Seaside way of life began catching on, and its developers, knowing the Modica’s history, approached them and said “it’s time to build a grocery store.”

The Modicas took on the opportunity and built Modica Market into the leading gourmet specialty store it is today with three family generations now continuing the tradition of providing Southern cuisine, hospitality, and local and international specialty products that make staying, living, or working at the beach so much for enjoyable.
